Kris P. Kreme brings a spooky campfire tale for readers and takes legends to new heights with this tale of foolish kids who go out camping one night in the local swamp.The characters are typical of a high school, the jocks, the girl next door, the flirt, and of course the one kid who knows better and yet allows himself to be suckered into being complacent. Orson is this character, and he narrates the tale that sets the stage for what the other four characters will be experiencing first hand. The elements are all here, the scary stories being told, ones retold so many times and in so many ways that there is likely not an ounce of truth in them. Of course the twist is that one of these tales is very much based in fact, even if no one suspects what those facts might do to a couple of their group. In the town of Boggy Marsh, the swamp is dangerous for all who enter, but there is hinted at an ancient power that preys on women. The two girls in their group are sisters, and while there is a big and little sister to begin the night, it will end with nothing little about them, most especially their appetite for quenching the lust that is growing inside them. The pacing is slow, dragging the night out until the real climactic action takes place. From then on, the teens find themselves becoming characters in their own unbelievable legend, one that might be told of for generations to come, as two of them become swamp monsters and the rest become the victims of those monsters. Things can’t get much bigger on this dark and stormy night.
